Career Education and Transition Program

The Career Education Program at TCI provides work-oriented experience that permits students to apply life skills and academic subject matter outside a classroom setting. This program offers selected students structured opportunities to develop work habits that are prerequisites for future employment.

The students are provided with career exploration experiences that place emphasis on the development of skills required to successfully transition to the workplace and community. Community Career exploration has been provided in clerical, custodial, food service, grocery services, packaging, stock, housekeeping, wait staff and more. Within these areas of interest, training and support is provided through on and off-site staff supervision.

Students are referred to the program based on the Transition Plan goals, general and site-specific criteria.

Individual student progress will be reviewed and evaluated via:
  • Individual group meetings, involving the employee, Job Coach, Transition Coordinator, and Teacher.
  • Review of Work evaluations and related comments.
  • Progress reports.
  • The TCI Career Education Room
At the TCI site, we have included a specially designed area, equipped with work stations that provide students with career educational activities, such as, woodworking, embossing, silk screening, laminating, collating, and book binding.
