A Story About TCI Alumnus: Brian

When Brian came to TCI at the age of five, he was hoping to make friends quickly and learn to be able to work in a group setting. Brian's hopes came true - he made many friends and found his teachers to be caring and patient while guiding him to using appropriate classroom behaviors. Brian was introduced to his first computer at the age of six by the TCI staff. They found him to be a quick learner and a natural on the new technology. What an insightful decision that turned out to be, for today, Brian is a senior, majoring in Computer Science at Muhlenberg College in Allentown.

While schoolwork takes up a great deal of time, Brian also pursues his second love - the theater. And, with three theaters on campus, there are plenty of opportunities. "I guess you could call me the Master Electrician on campus," he says shyly. "Electricity and lighting have always come naturally to me. It's something I really understand and enjoy," he continued, during a recent telephone conversation from his campus dorm room.

Brian is involved in two theatrical productions each semester, designing, and creating the lighting, gathering props, and building sets. He has worked on the production of such shows as West Side Story, A Mid-Summer's Night Dream, Our Town and Little Shop of Horrors, to mention a few. He also worked on the production crew of the grand opening show of Muhlenberg's newest theater earlier this year starring Gregory Hines. While he is at home in Roselle, he and his mom, Marilyn, frequent Broadway as a regular routine.

During Brian's summer vacations following his freshman, sophomore and junior years, he interned on Wall Street in the Communications Division of the New York Stock Exchange, working primarily on the NYSE web page. In a formal review at the end of this summer, he was rated as consistently exceeding expectations and was described as an independent worker that takes initiative and willingly shares his knowledge with others. When given a task he can be counted on to finish quickly and accurately. Says his supervisor, 'It was a pleasure to work with Brian. He is a mature, hard worker. I look forward to having him intern again next year. And what about next year? After graduation, he plans to explore the New York Stock Exchange for a job in their Web Development Division as a technical consultant. Moreover, while he's in Manhattan everyday, he might just find himself wandering uptown towards Broadway!
